Bill O’Reilly usually writes his books to convey self help to unsatisfied people. In this addition to his many self help books, O’Reilly’s main point is show people proper morals and self motivated views, which will evidently lead to more fulfillments in life. Throughout the book O’Reilly uses a more “conservative” (politically speaking) way of thinking and a catholic upbringing to dictate his actions. These factors taint his views on other ways of living.
The author’s main focus in this self help book is to be an all around better person with a well rounded set of beliefs and morals. He also advises people on how to stay away from the wrong people by using your own judgments. He portrays both of these very well with examples from his childhood. These memories share an eerie resemblance to many modern issues. The simplicity children have clearly shows the proper path to approach a situation. Be it by mistake or not, the simple answer and life long moral usually stands out in their situations. The other main point is exposing frauds and making sure not to side with them. Again the simplicity of childhood aids in achieving this and is what led O’Reilly to his current career (A news reporter/debater). He is a real life example of what good morals and traits can achieve.
One major strength that this book has is its vast supply of real world instances. When the author is trying to explain that proper education can lead to a better life, he uses New Orleans and the thousands of stranded people after Hurricane Katrina as an example. O’Reilly believes that if those unfortunate victims had proper jobs and educations that they would not have been in the slummy areas of New Orleans and potentially could have avoided the whole endeavor and distress. The only weakness I can see in this book is the bias nature of this white, upper classed American citizen. This leads to a sometimes “white trash” outlook on certain subjects.
This book is regarded as world class self help book, as seen on the New York Times best seller list. This book will be added to the ranks of the most controversial self help books around. But, because of his radical or “Bold” views, this book can help many people. After reading, I would recommend this book to people who strive to be “Fresh”.
